The digital eBook reader for the Mac and Windows PC. Stanza combines the easy-to-read format of the printed word with the convenience of the digital world. The user has control over the display format including multi-column for a newspaper like reading experience.
This tool can also convert documents for use on portable devices. Collectively the programs on portable devices are also called Stanza. The conversion tool is pretty basic for most supported formats in that it first strips formatting data leaving only the text.
Stanza was the first to adopt the Open Publication Distribution System (OPDS) which was pioneered by Lexcycle.

Reading on a bulky desktop or on a laptop with limited battery life is not for everyone. That's why Stanza features the ability to export your reading material in a wide array of formats that can be read on your mobile device.
Its native export to the iPhone makes it the first product that can convert all of your digital texts to iPhone 'bookmarklets' that sync with your iPhone for reading anywhere — no internet connection required. The eBooks on the iPhone are in ePUB format and are supported by a free Stanza download for you iPhone.
Stanza can also export to MobiPocket, enabling you to use the popular MobiPocket Reader and to Amazon Kindle. Last, but not least, Stanza has an experimental new feature that allows you to export your books to MP3audio books.
Stanza supports a number of eBook formats including some forms of DRM (see below). For the latest list see Supported formats. Note that the MAC reader can read the formats marked with Read while it can export the formats marked with Write to an external device.
Stanza now supports eReader eBook format including DRM and has also announced future support for AdobeDRM but only on the portable device, not on the Desktop.

Even people who use Lexcycle’s Stanza e-book reader on theiriPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad may not be aware that there’s adesktop version of the program; the company doesn’t advertise it.Stanza Desktop not only allows you to read books on your PC (orMac), it converts many different document types to the popular epubformat. It can convert PDF, RTF, Kindle, and eReader, just to namea few.
Unfortunately, only .doc Word files are supported, not the newer.docx files. For this reason, along with its Spartan design andsome quirks, I initially abandoned it in favor of the far moreversatile Calibre. Calibreis a fine program–and like Stanza Desktop, it’s free–but for somereason, it wasn’t doing a good job removing headers from severalbooks I’d converted from PDF. Just for kicks, I re-downloadedStanza Desktop, opened the documents, and darned if it didn’t stripall those pesky headers. Basically, Stanza strips everything; thenyou supply the title, author, and other information yourself usingthe Book info function if the program doesn’t find that. Stanzadoes a very good job of recognizing chapters and converting filesto .epub format, and does so automatically without all the fuss andoptions that Calibre throws at you.

Stanza Desktop also allows you to transfer a book to you Applemobile device without using iTunes. Simply enable sharing on themenu and it will appear under the shared heading in the mobileversion of Stanza–assuming both devices are on the same network.You may then add it to your library.
Although Stanza Desktop is very basic, and there are no batchoperations, I actually prefer it to Calibre for whenever I needjust a few files converted tout de suite. It’s great for quick anddirty conversions, as well as for getting a book onto my iPod Touchwhen I’m in a hurry. If you’re looking for an e-book organizer andmore bells and whistles, grab Calibre as well.
